Exquisite Corpse
The exquisite corpse arises from the well-known surrealist practice where multiple persons participate in the creation of a drawing. Working across time and space—geographies and temporalities—we start with one drawing, then mail it to another Plant Contingent member to continue, until each member has marked the artwork. This practice of collaborative creation diffuses the singularity of authorship. In this way we work together while apart, finding concatenations and connections within rhizomes of thoughts and feelings.
The card images expand the opportunity for participation and exploration beyond the physical and local. Working via mail, each of us intervenes by adding texts, textures and layers of images to meander and bewilder our ideas.
